Search With Yippy

Search With Yippy

Yippy Search is a really fun way to search the internet for information about essential oils.

"What really makes Yippy unique is what happens after you search. Instead of delivering millions of search results in one long list, our search engine groups similar results together into “clouds.” Clouds help you see your search results by topic so you can zero in on exactly what you’re looking for or discover unexpected relationships between items.

When was the last time you went to the third or fourth page of the search results? Rather than scrolling through page after page, the clouds help you find results you may have missed or that were buried deep in the ranked list."

Check it out. In the search box you can add anything you're interested in. Try: Sita Spruce essential oil. On the top left you get a box with results that are in categories for you. The very top of the box has all the results in red and then they are broken down into categories to further define your search. Have fun!

Hydrosols and Homemade Toothpaste

Hydrosols and Homemade Toothpaste

Karen Williams, author of Aromatics International Blog, wrote a great blog post last year called "Hydrosols, Like a Fine Wine".

I love hydrosols. The first two days of class this week at Aromahead Institute we used peppermint hydrosol to cool off during 90 degree weather. We spritzed the back of our necks and added peppermint hydrosol to water for a refreshing drink. The experience reminded me once again how great hydrosols are and how many ways we can use them. One way I use peppermint hydrosol is for making toothpaste.

Recipe for homemade toothpaste:
Add 1.5 tablespoons of baking soda to a small bowl and mix in 1 teaspoon of peppermint hydrosol. You should have a thick paste. If you like the taste of tea tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia), you can add 1 drop to this mix.

Confession: brushing your teeth with this is kind of like eating peppermint salt -- it is weird and takes some getting used to -- but it sure does make your teeth feel clean!
